The match takes place at the Emirates and the home advantage should give Arsenal a good chance at taking the three points. Chelsea currently sit at the top of the English Premier League with 13 points from 5 games, although many have highlighted this is the first serious test of their title credentials as their opening games have not been against the top opposition.
Chelsea have not been at their best by any means so far this season, but a number of their big name players will be expected to step forward today to ensure the Blues put on a performance.
Summer signings Eden Hazard and Oscar have settled in quickly at Chelsea, and they will be looked to today to continue their good run of form.
Arsenal on the other hand currently sit in 5th place in the English Premier League having taken 9 points from their 5 games. But the 4 point gap at the moment may be deceiving. The Gunners have had a more difficult start to the season, and performance-wise they have looked fantastic at times.
Mikel Arteta has provided good cover in front of the Gunners back four, and has formed a solid partnership with fit-again Abou Diaby.
Arsenal proved they can still mix it with the best during last week’s 1-1 draw with current Premier League champions Manchester City.
Thomas Vermaelen should be fit for today’s game following illness. Also Emmanuel Frimpong returned from a serious illness in midweek and should be available for selection. Jack Wilshire will miss today’s game though, although October could see his return.
Chelsea captain John Terry is set to play for the Blues despite being handed a four match ban this week after being found guilty of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand by the FA. His appeal window is still open and so the ban has not yet commenced, leaving him available for selection against the Gunners.
