Donadoni, 49, now coaches Parma, but he spent 12 years with Milan as a midfielder. During that time, he scored 18 goals over 120 game appearances.
But leading up to Saturday's match, Donadoni said he will not allow his past with Milan to interfere with his work to secure a victory for Parma.
"For me Milan represents the past," he said. "Even if the past is undoubtedly important, they are [our] opponents this weekend. Sentiment cannot affect things, I am Parma's coach now. Even [if] it sounds banal, it is so. Milan are an opponent in the league and should be dealt with as such."
He added that Parma's line-up for the game was still in flux.
"Tomorrow morning I will make the last considerations for the starting XI. At the moment there are no guarantees," Donadoni said. "There are some players who are more tired. Some are more difficult to recover. We will see."
Milan secured its second win of the season on Wednesday with a 2-0 victory over Cagliari. The team has lost three of its five matches thus far in Serie A play.
The advantage seems to rest with Parma for this match. Not only is that club the home team, but they haven't lost at their home stadium since March.
