"Bad Piggies" Review; Big Expectations for "Angry Bird" Follow-Up
The pigs have arrived and they're looking to have their day in the sun in Rovio's "Bad Piggies."
The game revolves around those same green pigs from "Angry Birds" but with a twist. This time you play the pigs as they try to find ways to steal the delicious eggs away from those pesky birds.
"There's a lot of empathy towards the lovable enemies from the 'Angry Birds' games, and we've been constantly asked: what about the pigs' side of the story?" Mikael Hed, Rovio CEO, said in a statement. "'Bad Piggies' gives you the chance to play as the second-most-loved characters in the 'Angry Birds' universe, and explore this rich world through their green eyes."
The game revolves around creating makeshift vehicles from whatever objects are found on a series of levels that help the pigs to capture the bird eggs. Players are expected to try and collect all the bonuses they can and complete three objectives to get the best reward.
Expectations are high for the game considering how successful "Angry Birds" has become. The franchise brought in $106.3 million for Rovio in 2011, with about a third of that revenue coming from licensing and merchandising.
So how has it been received by the playing public?
The puzzles in the game have been cited as more challenging than Rovio's "Angry Birds" but that hasn't kept the fun away. USA Today gave the game four out of four stars in their review of the game saying, "Although 'Angry Birds' features simpler gameplay,' Bad Piggies' is just as fun and rewarding."
IGN reviewed the game favorably stating: "Bad Piggies is the best title Rovio has released yet, eclipsing Angry Birds Space. The open-ended puzzles work your brain while also allowing you to be creative. Thanks to Rovio's infectiously amusing, cheerful style you'll be smiling ear-to-ear watching your creations come to life regardless of whether you succeed or fail."
You can download "Bad Piggies" on Apple iOS and Google Android at a starting price of $0.99.
