Ann Romney To Be 'Good Morning America' Guest Co-Host on Oct. 10
Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, is set to be a guest co-host on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Oct. 10.
Ann will be filling in for anchor Robin Roberts, who is recovering from a bone marrow transplant.
ABC News, however, wants to give equal opportunity to both spouses of the presidential candidates. The network has been in talks with first lady Michelle Obama to guest-host the program, but Michelle must find an opening in her schedule first.
Many viewers indicated that President Barack Obama's performance at the first presidential debate was lackluster.
"Given President Obama's performance at the debate, the Obama campaign could certainly use some of his wife's considerable personal capital right about now," The Hollywood Reporter wrote.
Ann will join anchor George Stephanopoulos and correspondents Lara Spencer, Josh Elliott and Sam Champion on the morning show. The media opportunity will allow her to spread her husband's message to potential voters.
For security, Ann will not appear outside of 'Good Morning America's' Times Square Studio, where anchors typically interact with audience members.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ann -- who has battled multiple sclerosis and underwent a lumpectomy in 2008 --reached out to anchor Roberts on Twitter after she said an on-air "goodbye" to take a medical leave.
Ann tweeted, "Keep on fighting. We all stand with you!"
Many have called Ann's co-hosting spot unethical since "Good Morning America" is largely a news program.
An LA Times commentary piece stated, "So the invitation to newsmakers to host the morning show continues to push an entertainment-news boundary that grows murkier day by day."
