Bears Fan Stabbed to Death in Jacksonville Bar before Game
A Bears fan was fatally stabbed in a bar brawl in Jacksonville.
The incident took play on Sunday in the Irish themed Fionn MacCool's restaurant located at the Jacksonville Landing.
The Associated Press reported that the victim was William C. "Chris" Pettry, 42, with the alleged attacker being Matthew Hinson, 28.
Bears fan Pettry, originally from Lake Villa, Illinois, was visiting Jacksonvillie to watch the Chicago Bears play the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Pettry and Hinson got into a dispute that erupted into what MacCool's owner Toney Slieman said was "a sudden act of violence." The argument took place before the Jaguars-Bears football game that was kicking off later that day.
When police first arrived at the scene for a disturbance call, they found Pettry was stabbed.
The reason behind the attack may have been due to Pettry talking with Hinson's wife, according to Fox Chicago News.
"For some reason, he became jealous, enraged, whatever you want to call it, and approached our victim," said Jacksonville Sheriff's Lt. Rob Schoonover. "According to one of the eyewitnesses, he calmly and basically cold-blooded just cut the victim's throat, and calmly walked out of the restaurant."
Hinson didn't put up a fight with the police as he confessed to stabbing Pettry. Police believe they found the murder weapon, a small pocket knife, after searching Hinson.
"During a subsequent interview post Miranda, Hinson gives admissions to stabbing the victim but also alleged he does not remember his reasons for doing so," a police report read.
Pettry was unable to see his favorite team beating the Jaguars 41 to 3 on Sunday. Hinson is being held by the Florida Police on a murder charge without bail.
