Russia vs Portugal Live Stream, Watch Online World Cup Qualifier @10:55 AM ET
In today's World Cup Qualifiers, Portugal will go head-to-head with Russia in a Group F matchup. Both clubs have two wins a piece and are currently tied for first place with six points. The game will be important for both sides, as the winner will gain full possession of the top spot.
Russia is hoping history can repeat itself, as Portugal has never beaten them on their home turf. They (then Soviet Union) were victorious against them in 1981 and then pulled out a draw in 2005. Portugal's coach Paul Bento anticipates a grueling opponent in the Russians, but still remains confident that his club can pull out a road victory at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, according to Fifa.
"Russia have the same objective as us so there's no favourite, but we're going out there to win and leave here with a total of nine points."
Although he's questionable for Friday's game due to a thigh strain, Portugal's star defender Pepe doesn't feel the football club's matchup with the Russians will make or break his team. The 29-year-old recently gave his take on the matchup to ESPN Star.
"If we get out of there without defeat, it will be positive for us. It will be a hard game, very important, but it will not decide anything."
Portugal's defense must keep an eye on Viktor Fayzulin. The midfielder has been a key offensive player in Russia's success, scoring two goals and one assist in two Group F matchups this season. Putting a stop to his superb play will play an essential part in their defensive success.
Helping Portugal's offensive cause, it's being reported by Goal that star player Cristiano Ronaldo's shoulder should be recovered and ready to go on Friday despite a sprain he endured last week in El Clasico.
