Spain and France will compete for an early advantage in Group I of the World Cup qualifier when the two teams meet in competition on Tuesday afternoon.

The squads will compete to further their path to Brazil in 2014 during Tuesday's game, scheduled to take place in Vicente Calderón Stadium in Madrid, Spain. The match is slated to kick off at 3 p.m. Eastern time.

Momentum is certainly on Spain's side in Tuesday's game. The Spanish squad is currently enjoying a record 24-game winning streak in its World Cup and European Championship qualifiers, and Spain has won four of its last five matches against France. That includes a 2-0 victory over the French in the Euro 2012 quarterfinals.

France has not had much success in international competition since its defeat of Spain in the 2006 World Cup, and France remains the last team to get a win over Spain in World Cup competition. After that victory in 2006, France fell to Italy on penalty kicks in the finals, and the French team has never truly found its footing again.

Spanish forward Pedro Rodríguez Ledesma told the media leading up to the game that he considers the current squad from Spain to be the best in history.

"Seeing the prize list, nobody has achieved what we did," Pedro said. "On the pitch, we understand. And when you take pleasure in playing, it helps to communicate outside. There is really a great friendship between us. Some people have been fundamental in uniting like [Iker] Casillas, Xavi Alonso, hyper intelligent players. The arrival of Vicente del Bosque, too, was fundamental."

But Pedro also acknowledged that he and his team don't expect to simply steamroll France without a fight.

"France is a great nation. Do not think we will win easily," he said. "Against France, it's always special. It is true that currently, it is our turn to shine. But I am convinced that France will return soon. They are young."
