Alejandrina Gisselle Guzman Salazar, the daughter of Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman Loera, was arrested in San Diego when she tried to enter the United States with someone else's passport.

Guzman Salazar was arrested at San Diego's San Ysidro port on October 12. Two U.S. officials said she admitted to authorities that her father was "El Chapo," according to the Daily Mail.

The 31-year-old Guzman is pregnant and tried to enter the United States to give birth, according to a criminal complaint, CNN reports.

She was charged with fraud and misuse of visas, permits and other documents, the Daily Mail reports.

Guzman Salazar reportedly hired lawyers Jan Ronis and Guadalupe Valencia, who are known for representing clients with ties to organized crime.

"El Chapo," 54 , controls the Sinaloa cartel, one of the biggest criminal organizations in Mexico that smuggles drugs into the United States. The U.S. Department of Treasury has called him the most powerful drug lord in the world and he has been featured on Forbes' annual list of millionaires with an estimated fortune of $1 billion.

Guzman Salazar's arrest could help authorities track "El Chapo" but it remains unknown how much she knows about her father's whereabouts.

"We don't know exactly what she knows,' said David Shirk, director of the University of San Diego's Trans-Border Institute. "It may just be an interesting factoid in the war on drugs or it could be a vital clue for law enforcement ... This is the kind of random development that could potentially shift the tides."

U.S. authorities offer $5 million for his head.
