Yankees vs Tigers Live Stream Online, Watch ALCS, Oct. 17 @ 8 PM ET
The New York Yankees will look to avoid elimination when they face the Detroit Tigers in Game 4 of the 2012 ALCS on Wednesday night. With the Tigers up 3-0 in the series, the Yankees will put their season in the hands of ace lefty C.C. Sabathia while Detroit will send Max Scherzer to the hill. The Tigers will look to further capitalize on a mightily struggling Yankees offense.
Arguably the best pitcher in the MLB, Justin Verlander delivered as expected by throwing 8 1/3 innings only surrendering three hits on Tuesday. The lone New York run was put up by a Eduardo Nunez homer.
According to CBC, Yankees manager Joe Girardi spoke to the media about his team's tough loss in Game 3 to Verlander.
"There were some good at-bats (Tuesday). The ball was not carrying tremendously well, we know that. But I think (Verlander) ended up with three strikeouts. So our guys put the ball in play and tried to get on base, but, you know, when you face Verlander, you know what you're up against," he said.
With the Bronx Bombers' backs up against the wall and on the brink of elimination, Girardi added that "The thing that you do is you keep encouraging the guys and you keep telling them, 'Hey, find a way, find a way to get it done.'"
Not one to assume a trip to the World Series is imminent, Tigers skipper Jim Leyland put his ball club's success in perspective.
"We put ourselves in a decent position, but that's all we have done."
For the Yankees, the current outcome is looking very similar to their five game elimination to the Tigers in last year's division series. To date, New York hasn't been swept in a playoff series since the 1980 ALCS against the Kansas City Royals. The team will look to send the series into a Game 5 and become the second team in MLB history to come back from a 3-0 deficit. Ironically enough, the Boston Red Sox had pulled out four straight victories against the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS.
