Stating that it had a "little more to show," Apple sent out invitations last week for their Oct. 23 event in San Jose, Calif. At the gathering, the tech company is expected to reveal a smaller sized version of its iPad.

The Wall Street Journal stated that the iPad Mini went into mass production in September. Reports suggest that Apple's latest product will possess a 7.85-inch screen, 3G and 4G connectivity, run iOS 6 and have a new Lightning dock connector.

Gartner Research Director Michael Gartenberg spoke to ABC News about Apple's latest innovation.

"When it comes to tablets one size does not fit all. It would not surprise me of Apple, having defined the tablet market, decided there was room in the line for something between an iPod touch and iPad," he said. "Of course, with Apple it's all about the details of the experience so we'll just have to see what it is they announce."

Characteristic of the days that led up to Apple's previous conferences, the release date of the iPad Mini still remains a mystery. Interestingly enough, the late Steve Jobs once stated that the 7-inch tablet market would be "dead on arrival." However, there was an Apple email that revealed that Jobs was beginning to change his mind on the idea just before his passing, according to the ABC report.

Apple isn't the only company trying to cash in on the tablet market. Amazon released its new Kindle Fire HD, which started selling at $199. Asus and Google also launched the Nexus 7 in June for the same price, and Barnes & Noble rolled out the Nook HD three weeks prior at $199 as well. According to 9to5Mac, the iPad Mini should start at a price of $329.

In other tech news, the Windows 8 operating system is set to launch for laptops, tablets and desktops on Oct. 26. Computers ranging from Dell to HP are also expected to roll out newer touch-friendly software.
