President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are still largely neck and neck in the race for the White House, according to nationwide polling data, but projections for how the Electoral College map will shake out on Election Day tell a different story.

According to the latest data from The Huffington Post's polling analysis, a total of 277 electoral votes are leaning Obama's way. If those states do all go to Obama on Nov. 6, it would be enough to push him past the 270-vote margin a candidate needs to win the presidency.

Obama's Republican challenger lags behind by 71 votes. Romney currently has 206 electoral votes leaning toward becoming Red States on Election Day.

There are a total of 538 electoral votes up for grabs on Election Day. According to The Huffington Post's data, 55 of those still remain too close to call and sit in the toss-up category for the time being.

The Huffington Post's data breaks down the states and their respective electoral votes as follows:

-Strong Obama: 237 electoral votes

-Leans Obama: 40 electoral votes

-Toss Up: 55 electoral votes

-Leans Romney: 15 electoral votes

-Strong Romney: 191 electoral votes

Earlier this week, on Wednesday, Obama's lead was not as big as it is presently. Though he was still far ahead of Romney, he only had 253 electoral votes safely in his pocket, which is 17 fewer than he needs to win another four years in the White House.

Obama's Electoral College advantage is much smaller, based on data from national polling from Rasmussen, but those projections still have the president significantly in the lead.

In that electoral map forecast, Obama is currently carrying 237 electoral votes, while Romney is carrying 206, the same amount in his pocket in The Huffington Post's projection.
