Krim Murder Update; Yoselyn Ortega Angered Over Housework; Killed Marina Krim's Two Children
New details were released on the New York City nanny killings.
Yoselyn Ortega, the Dominican Republic native and nanny responsible for the deaths of two children in her care, was questioned by police on Thursday and said that she was angered the Krim family wanted her to do housework.
According to the Daily Mail, New York City police officials commented on Ortega's questioning saying, "She said something like, 'I'm paid to watch the children, not clean up and do housework.' "
Authorities added, "There was friction between her and the family."
Ortega had financial troubles that led to Kevin and Marina Krim offering extra money in exchange to do housework. The nanny did not take the offer kindly: the family planned on giving Ortega an additional five hours a week of work, which got in the way of her medical appointments.
The nanny had additional worries as her job performance fell and Marina and Kevin Krim told Ortega that she might be replaced if she didn't improve her work.
Ortega remains in the hospital where she awoke on Sunday from a medically-inducted coma after slitting her wrists and throat. Yesterday she was arraigned from her New York hospital bed, according to CNN.
On Oct. 25, Marina Krim returned to her Upper West Side apartment in New York to find both of her children dead in the bathtub at the hands of their nanny, who was bleeding nearby.
Krim's 2-year-old son Leo and 6-year-old daughter Lucia were found stabbed and bleeding to death in the bath along with the 50-year-old nanny, who failed to kill herself after slitting her own throat and wrists.
Police said they believe Ortega started cutting herself when Krim returned home.
"We believe now that the nanny began to stab herself as the woman entered the room," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly on Friday. "We initially thought that had already been done but now information is coming out that she did it as the mother entered the bathroom."
Marina arrived at her Manhattan home with her three-year-old daughter Nessie who was with her at the time of the attack, according to the New York Post. The mom of three returned to her home after Ortega and the two children were missing from meeting Marina and Nessie at a nearby pool.
Neighbors within the Hamilton Heights building reported to police what they saw of Ortega before the murders.
"She lost a lot of weight," said neighbor Ruben Diaze. "She looked very unhealthy. It looked like she was going through some problems. She had aged a lot - like seven years in a few months."
