Manchester City will face off against Ajax on Tuesday in a pivotal game in Champions League football. Another inconsistent performance out of Man City could very well halt their chances of advancing past the group stages of the competition.
With just a mere point in three games, City finds themselves at the bottom in this year's Group of Death. In their last match against Borussia Dortmund, they were only able to walk away with a draw at the Etihad. Currently, Dortmund sits at the top of the group standings with seven points, followed by Real Madrid (6) and Ajax (3).
While Ajax will be the visiting squad in the crucial showdown, they are still said to have the psychological edge since they prevailed in a grueling 3-1 win against City in an English Premier League game in Amsterdam a couple weeks back.
Despite Manchester's massive wealth worth of players, the football club hasn't appeared as the cohesive unit that they were envisioned to be. The dominance that Robert Mancini's squad normally shows in the Premier League hasn't parlayed into their games in Europe's top-notch competition. However, in their defense, City does play amongst a difficult group of teams, with three of their opponents being champions in each of their respective leagues.
City has also seemed to be hindered by reports that skipper Mancini had interviewed for a job with Monaco and was on the verge of departing from the club at the season's end.
