Sasha and Malia: Obama Girls Growing Up Right Before America's Eyes
Sasha and Malia Obama came on stage with their re-elected father, President Barack Obama, and their mother Michelle Obama when the president gave his acceptance speech after being elected for a second term on Tuesday.
This was the first time the two girls have been seen in months, since their parents kept them out of the media during the presidential campaign. Sasha and Malia strolled onto the stage, looking nothing like the little girls who accompanied their father to the podium in 2008 when he won his first term.
In just four years, Sasha and Malia Obama have grown up and developed a mature look that resembles that of their mother. The fast-growing Obama girls were noticed by America when they walked on the nation's biggest stage on Election Night with big smiles on their faces.
Sasha,11, and Malia,14, have remained private about their lives although they have been living in the spotlight for at least four years now.
The Today show Moms blog noted, "Our surprise at how the girls have grown into young women is some evidence that Michelle and Barack have succeeded at their stated goal of keeping them out of the spotlight."
"That the mainstream press has been good about honoring their privacy - the girls do normal things like go out to the movies with their friends in D.C. without worrying about paparazzi," NBC's Andrea Mitchell said.
During the campaign, Michelle Obama told an interviewer that she keeps Sasha and Malia off Facebook to maintain their privacy, according to The Inquisitr. In addition to being very protective, the president and the first lady also keep a close relationship with their girls, spending time together and playing with the family dog Bo.
President Obama made sure to give thanks to his fast growing daughters during his acceptance speech this week. "I'm so proud of you guys," he said. "Sasha and Malia, before our very eyes, you're growing to become two strong, smart beautiful young women."
