Hilary Clinton's decision to leave her position as secretary of state and focus more on her private life has not been affected by President Barack Obama's re-election.

A source confirmed that Clinton will see through to a successor stepping in so she can focus more on her family life.

"I don't think the secretary's plans have changed," U.S. State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said during a briefing on Wednesday, only a day after Obama was re-elected. "You've heard her say many times that she intends to see through a transition of a successor and then she will go back to private life and enjoy some rest and think and write and all those things."

Clinton is a former U.S. senator and first lady. Bill Clinton's presidential term began in 1993 and ended in 2001, when George Walker Bush was elected to the White House.

Reports suggest that though stepping away from the secretary of state position, Hilary might hope to secure another job - that of the president's. A 2016 Clinton presidential campaign may possibly occur.

"After barely falling short in 2008 and earning high marks and soaring approval ratings in four years as America's top diplomat, she unambiguously has the strongest claim on being the next Democratic standard-bearer," NJ.com reported. "If, and it is a big unknown, she wants another shot at the presidency."

If Clinton is up for a second run in politics after already enduring four years - and stating that she wants to turn her focus now toward a private life - the news report noted that she has a good chance of leading the democratic party.

"I do think the nomination is Hillary's for the taking," said a democratic strategist, who added, "Hillary's the most popular political figure in the country."
