Steve Blake Apologizes to Fan of Lakers After 25K Fine For Insults [VIDEO]
Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake apologized to a fan he cursed at during a game on Friday at the Staples Center where his team played the Los Angeles Clippers.
A video of the incident posted online shows Blake frustrated and exchanging harsh words with a fan sitting on the front row. ESPN reports that the fan is Lance Jackson, who was there with his father Steve Jackson. The pair are known to be longtime friends of the team and courtside season-ticket holders.
The exchange began when Lance reportedly told Blake, "You need to knock down those open shots."
"We got a chance to speak and talk about the situation, and I just let them know I was sorry for the way I acted," Blake said, according to ESPN. "I didn't handle myself the way I want to, and we were able to talk and hopefully can build a relationship off of that."
Blake was fined $25,000 by the NBA today for directing inappropriate language toward a fan.
Sports' commentators were shocked about Blake's response.
"You walk across the floor to talk to someone in the first row, wow," they said as it was happening. "That's the ultimate in frustration, when you engage the fans," they added.
The Clippers defeated the Lakers 105-96 on that game.
"It was an emotional game for me, losing a third game in a row and this and that, but there are no excuses," Blake said, according to ESPN. "It was just a spur-of-the-moment bad decision."
