Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and her husband the astronaut Mark Kelly were present at a courtroom Thursday where Jared Lee Loughner was sentenced to life in prison for the shootings in Tucson, Arizona on January 8, 2011.

U.S. District Judge Larry Burns sentenced Loughner, 24, to seven life terms (one for each of the victims and one for attempting to kill a Congresswoman) plus 140 years.

"After this moment. Here and now. Gabby and I are done thinking about you," Kelly told Loughner in prepared remarks he read in the courtroom.

In total, six people were killed and 13 others injured last year during Loughner's attack outside a grocery store.

The sentencing was not televised but multiple newspapers were given access to cover the event.

CBS News correspondent John Blackstone noted that Kelly said his wife Gabby largely lost her ability to speak, is blind in one eye and struggles to walk as a result of the attack.

"Her life has been forever changed. Plans she had for our family and her career have been immeasurably altered," Kelly said, according to Blackstone. "Every day is a continuous stuggle to do those things she once was so good at."

Loughner's victims that survived also gave testimony in court Thursday. Some of them were forgiving and others were not, according to the Huffington Post.

"You forgot to shoot yourself," Mavanell Stoddard, the wife of a person killed that day told him, according to the HuffPost.

Loughner showed no emotion during the ordeal, according to several reports.
