Facebook Obama Slur: Densie Helms Fired, Investigated By Secret Service For "Assassination" Comment
A California woman has been fired and is being investigated after writing a racist remark and referencing assassination on her Facebook page about President Barack Obama.
The controversial comments went so viral, that it led to her getting fired from her job and reported to the U.S. Secret Service.
Denise Helms, 22, wrote a reeling Facebook post shortly after the president's re-election on Tuesday.
"And another 4 years of the (n-----). Maybe he will get assassinated this term..!!" Helms reportedly wrote on her Facebook page.
The post quickly went viral on Facebook and Twitter. The following night FOX 40, a Sacramento TV station, interviewed Helms about her commments.
"I didn't think it would be that big of a deal," Helms told Fox 40 about her racist comment. "The assassination part is kind of harsh. I'm not saying like I would go do that or anything like that, by any means, but if it was to happen, I don't think I'd care one bit."
Helms wrote a statement about the backlash she received.
"So apparently my post last night about Obama got onto Twitter and Fox 40 came and interviewed me cause apparently a lot of people in Sacramento think I'm crazy and racist. WOW is all I got to say!! I'm not racist and I'm not crazy. just simply stating my opinion.!!!"
She has since deactivated her Facebook account but it did not end there. Helms' offensive comments and televison interview also caused so much outrage in Turlock, California that she lost her job at Cold Stone Creamery.
Cold Stone Creamery store director Chris Kegle told Bee In Turlock that when he arrived at the store on Thursday, there were more than 20 angry voicemails filled with complaints about Helms.
Kegle admitted he was surprised and disappointed to learn about Helms' Facebook post and Fox interview.
"We found her comments to be very disgusting, and they do not reflect our opinions here," Kegle said. "We never saw anything from her at work like those comments. We made the decision because of her comments, but also the community feedback," he added. "We are very into working with the community and doing community service. So when your community does not like you because of an employee, that's bad. We have a business to run."
Helms' comments and television interview have also been reported to the Secret Service.
Secret Service Agent Scott Gillingham told Bee In Turlock he would look into the Facebook post and Fox 40 interview. Threats against the president are illegal, he confirmed - a felony under U.S. Code Section 871.
"OK, but what did I do wrong? That's fine if they want to," Helms told Fox 40 when she learned she could be investigated. "But I don't understand what I did wrong."
