Lifetime is once again bringing 90s nostalgia back to TV with a behind-the-scenes look at the drama series Beverly Hills 90210 with an 'unauthorized' look at what happened when the cameras weren't rolling for the show.
The Unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 film was announced by the cable channel June 15, hot on the heels of their revealing the cast for their also upcoming Unauthorized Full House project.
"An international pop culture phenomenon, the drama series Beverly Hills, 90210 rules the 1990s television landscape," Lifetime said in a statement. "The Unauthorized Beverly Hills, 90210 Story will show the roller coaster ride of the program's first four seasons, highlighting the drama between cast members and producers both on and off-set, including the series' journey from several near-cancellations to its massive success and imprint in the cultural zeitgeist and lasting impression it has made on millions of people to this day."
The initial series starred Jason Priestley and Shannen Doherty as twin siblings who adjusted to life in the ritzy zip code after moving from Minnesota with their parents, and also made stars of Ian Ziering, Jennie Garth, Luke Perry, Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green.
Both Spelling and Priestley have addressed the tumultuous first few seasons of the show in their memoirs, with Spelling detailing backstage drama between Doherty and Garth in her first book, Stori Telling in 2008, and Priestley also discussing it in his own self-titled book back in 2014.
Garth also addressed the feud she and Doherty once shared in her own book, Deep Thoughts From A Hollywood Blonde.
It is unclear if the excerpts from the cast's books would play a role in telling the Lifetime version of events. 2013's The Unauthorized Saved by The Bell Story was loosely based on Dustin Diamond's memoir, Behind the Bell.
