Apple customers may have only a little more time to enjoy the iPhone 5 before the next version is released.

A new report by China's Commercial Times says trial productions will begin in December for a new iPhone 6 or iPhone 5s. The rumored production volumes for the new project are said to top 50,000 to 100,000 units with Apple pushing for the certification for parts necessary for iPhone 5s.

Apple is known for routinely coming out with new versions of their products, making the latest and greatest devices soon obsolete.

The iPhone 5 hit stores in September to record crowds after its highly anticipated announcement. The phone was strategically released ahead of the busy upcoming holiday shopping season to compete with Samsung, Google and Amazon.

Now the revamped iPhone 5s is said to be released possibly around the middle of next year.

The decision by Apple to revamp the iPhone 5 in such a short amount of time may be due to increased competition with companies like Samsung who is reportedly planning to release the Galaxy S4 early next year.

The new Apple device may also mean the addition of a new type of smart phone that will place itself ahead of competitors by broadening the market.

The iPhone 5s may just have updated internal components from its recent predecessor. Possible updates could include a new processor, a redesigned operating system, and other performance enhancing adjustments.

It's safe to assume that Apple is planning for the next generation of iPhones, but the latest announcement is only a rumor as the iPhone 5s has yet to be confirmed by the company.

Rumors have also spread about additional products by the tech giant such as a new iPad and the release of iTV.

The iPhone has become the biggest seller for Apple with 26.9 million devices sold in Q4 2012.
