In a friendly yet competitive matchup, the German squad will face off against the Netherlands on Wednesday. While the game isn't banking on anything serious, both of the respective squads will come into the duel with a high number of injuries.
For Germany, playmaker Mesut Ozil and superstar striker Miroslav Klose are the most recent players to go down for the club. Also missing from the starting lineup will be midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Toni Kroos, who are sick.
Rising young defensive midfielders Ilkay Gundogan and Lars bender will more than likely take the place of Ozil and Kroos.
Defenders Jerome Boateng and Marcel Schmelzer are down due to injuries they suffered in their Bundesliga matchups over the past weekend.
"It's not ideal, of course," stated German team manager Oliver Bierhoff, according to DW.
Critics have also queried the team's decision to play in an insignificant national friendly in the midst of the Champions League and Europa League competitions.
"There has always been this discussion about the November matches, even back then when I was a player on the national team. However for us it's important to play these friendlies," he added.
Germany's goalkeeper Rene Adler, who earned himself a recall to the team for the match, has played well after a couple of injury-plagued seasons.
"A few months ago I would not have dared to dream of returning to the international stage," said the former number one keeper in reference to the challenges he's faced over the years, "now I'm happy about every minute, every second I can play."
