After 37 years of portraying Luke Spencer on General Hospital, Anthony Geary has had his official last day on the soap opera's set, wrapping his final scene in his iconic role June 23.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Geary himself was moved to tears when some of his co-stars who weren't even on-set for filming all showed up to bid him farewell on his final day of filming, nor was he able to keep his emotions in check after Executive Producer Frank Valentini treated him to a video montage of his most memorable scenes, as well as special goodbyes from his co-stars and other ABC based celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg and the cast of The Chew.
Among the farewell messages to Geary included one by his legendary screen partner, Genie Francis, who portrayed his on-screen wife Laura Spencer for several years.
"Thank you for putting up with me as a petulant teenager," she said. "Thank you for the best acting partnership I've ever known."
In addition several members of the cast also took to social media to share sweet farewell messages with the actor, including his on-screen niece and nephew, Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos Jacks), and Ryan Carnes (Lucas Jones).
"I'm so grateful to have been one of your Caroline's," Wright wrote alongside a link to the EW article about his farewell. "Xo."
"On-set send-off today at #GH @GeneralHospital with the living #legend himself #AnthonyGeary," Carnes captioned a photograph of himself and Geary.
In addition, several other co-stars, including Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos), also took to social media to say their goodbyes and share some of their favorite memories with him on-set through the years.
"To the legend Tony Geary not just a great actor but a great guy and I'm proud to call him m friend," Benard wrote.
"Some of my very first scenes were with #TonyGeary," Vinessa Antoine (Jordan Ashford) wrote on Instagram. "Today #GeneralHospital says bye to 37 years of #LukeSpencer. He was so beautiful. Artist. Gentleman. We will miss him."
"There was not a dry eye on set...#tonygeary I adore this guy," Lisa LoCicero (Olivia Falconeri) wrote.
" #TonyGeary = #MAGIC that is all...#GH," Michelle Stafford (Nina Clay) said.
"Legend," Jason Thompson (Dr. Patrick Drake) wrote simply.
"I will miss you Tony!! Bon Voyage!!," Kathleen Gati (Leisl Obrecht) chimed in.
As for Geary himself, he told EW that he was excited for his future, and loved how his arc was wrapped up on the show as well.
"I'm excited to raise the curtain on act 3, to reinvent myself in my new home to pursue whatever opportunity there may be. It's an exciting prospect to me," he said. "They've done a wonderful job wrapping up the character. So this seems like the ideal time to go."
Geary's final episode airs later this summer.
