Many Samsung customers around the world have been waiting to update their Galaxy S3 devices with the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS.

Canadian users with the carrier Rogers will be able to update their Samsung Galaxy Notes and S3 devices by December, according to Auto-o-Mobile.

Some users in the United Kingdom are able to access the update with their unlocked, SIM-free, devices.

The reason Samsung may have only given access to the unlocked phones is to check to see if there are any major issues with the update before giving full access to all users.

The latest update for Samsung Galaxy S3 has yet to be released to all users in the United States, but that may change soon.

So far Sprint users are the only ones able to access the update, but other top U.S. carriers were confirmed in July to get the update include AT&T, Verizon, U.S. Cellular and T-Mobile.

However, not every Sprint user has been able to download the new operating system. According to the Christian Post, there's a five step process for Sprint users to for an over the air update.

Samsung posted a web page to allow users to stay updated with the Jelly Bean's progress.

The Jelly Bean update is one of the most advanced in the mobile market and will help solidify the Samsung Galaxy S3 as the top contender against Apple's iPhone 5. The update has a few new features like the voice-typing Google Now and Project Butter, which provides better UI animations. It also makes internet browsing faster and allows better organization for an enhanced overall performance.

While many are still waiting for Android 4.1, the Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1.2, Jelly Bean update recently leaked as a new ROM. The new firmware appeared for installation in XDA-Dev threads and includes the latest features available for users with the official build of Jelly Bean.
