Duff Beer: Fictional Brew From 'The Simpsons' Hitting Store Shelves in 2016, See Where You Can Score Homer's Drink Of Choice [PHOTO]
The fictional brew favored by famous cartoon dad Homer Simpson is soon going to be available to real-life consumers around the world after the show's owner announced plans to turn the alcoholic beverage into a real brand.
21st Century Fox will roll out an official branded premium lager to more South American and European markets by early next year, The Wall Street Journal reports, with possible plans for a domestic rollout being considered in the future.
"I think there's potential to have Duff everywhere in the world," Jeffrey Godsick, president of the company's consumer products division said.
For now, the beer will be available in the U.S. in the Simpsons section of Universal's Orlando and Los Angeles theme parks.
The company is reportedly consulting with a brewmaster to get the flavor just right, and will use subtle packaging with no obvious nods to the TV show, though it will be an exact replica of the brew which is set to play like an inside joke for superfans of the long-running cartoon series.
As for how the brew will taste?
"It's a premium lager," Godsick said. "It's got a very good balance of flavor and refreshment to it. It's fairly deep golden in color. It's got a hint of fruit to it. It's got a caramel aromatic to it."
However, don't expect the rollout to be marketed in conjunction with the show, which despite its sexual references and zingers relevant to current pop culture, is still one that appeals to children--who won't be able to purchase the adult beverage.
"Duff is inspired by the brand that's in the show, but it begins and ends at that," Godsick said. "It's a completely stand-alone brand...you will not see any characters from the show involved in the marketing in any way."
