Powerball Numbers November 28 2012: Grand Prize Winners In Arizona & Missouri
The winning Powerball numbers for the estimated $579 million dollar jackpot are as follows: 5, 23, 16, 22, 29 and Powerball 6.
The respective earnings are said to be the largest amount in lottery's history.
After a long day that had hopefuls purchasing tickets at a rate of 131,000 per minute, lottery officials drew the winning numbers just after 11 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Four tickets that were sold in Boston - at a 7-Eleven on Washington Street, the City Convenience on Beacon Street, the Galaxy Newsstand on Southbridge Street in Auburn and Tedeschi store #153 on Union Street in Rockland Massachusetts - matched five out of six numbers, which are valued at $1 million dollars, stated Beth Bresnahan of the Massachusetts Lottery.
"They came one number shy of winning the jackpot. They hit everything but the Powerball," she said to Boston.
Bresnahan also stated that there were two grand prize tickets that were bought in Arizona and Missouri. Those winners will be splitting the final jackpot, which will be either a $587.5 million or $384,747,857.92 cash option.
Overall, they were 58 nationwide winners that collected $1 million each. Two were in Connecticut, eight in New Jersey, four in New York and one in Arizona, among the others.
A previous drawing that took place on Saturday night brought no winners. The fact that nobody won along with the increase in the ticket price accounted for such a large amount of money in the pot for Wednesday's draw.
Mary Neubauer, a spokesperson at the game's Iowa headquarters, spoke to ABC News about the rationale behind the increase in price.
"Back in January, we moved Powerball from being a $1 game to $2. We thought at the time that this would mean bigger and faster-growing jackpots," she said.
Neubauer's explanation proved to be true, as the earnings began to take "huge jumps - another $100 million since Saturday," she added. Up until recently, the largest Powerball pot to date was $365 million, which was won in 2006 by eight Lincoln, Neb., co-workers.
