Twenty-six-year-old Lindsay Lohan was arrested Thursday for allegedly assaulting a person at a New York nightclub.

Lohan was partying at Club Avenue in Chelsea when apparently she got into an altercation with another club-goer. The incident got out of hand and Lohan was arrested and charged for assault.

At the time of publication, it remains unknown who started the nightclub brawl, but at some point during the fight, Lohan punched a woman in the face. The woman involved is not expected to face criminal charges for the fight, according to a police source for TMZ.

The young actress was arrested early Thursday for third degree misdemeanor assault and taken to the 10th precinct, where she asked for her lawyer. She was given a ticket and departed the police station in a black SUV.

Her next court date has yet to be reported.

Lohan has had many run-ins with the law this year. She was in a car accident in June on California's Pacific Coast Highway in which her Porsche hit the rear of an 18-wheeler. She allegedly told police that she was not the driver. However, statements from several witnesses at the scene said Lohan was driving the vehicle involved in the collision, which led to the charge of obstruction of justice for lying to police.

She was accused in September of clipping a man with her car in Manhattan but no charges were filed. Police were then called to her Long Island childhood home in October after Lohan and her mother got into a fight.

Lohan remains on informal probation for taking a necklace from a jewelry store without permission last year. Under the terms of the current probation, she doesn't have to check in with a probation officer, but she can face jail time if she is arrested again.
