Former President George HW Bush Hospitalized In Texas
Former president George H.W. Bush checked into a hospitalized in Texas this week for bronchitis.
The 88-year-old was taken to a hospital in Houston after suffering a severe cough that lasted for several weeks. He was hospitalized for the sake of caution do his age and condition.
The Methodist Hospital released a statement from Bush's representatives on Thursday about the situation: "President Bush has been in and out of The Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center being treated for complications related to his bronchitis. He is in stable condition, and is expected to be released within the next 72 hours."
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention lists bronchitis, also known as a chest cold, as a common breathing condition where the bronchial tubes within the lungs are inflamed. Mucus creation causes the patient to cough and the condition can worsen and turn very serious with elderly persons who have weaker immune systems.
George Herbert Walker Bush was the 41st president of the United States serving from 1989-1993. He also served as the head of the Central Intelligence Agency, and served two terms as vice president under Ronald Regan from 1981 to 1989.
The former president had six children with wife Barbara, according to his official WhiteHouse.gov biography. One of his children, Robin, died young. Two of his sons have held high political offices - George W. Bush served as the 43rd president of the United States and son Jeb Bush served as governor of Florida. Jeb has even been slated as a possible contender for the presidency in 2016, according to The Huffington Post.
Since leaving office, the former president has been active in raising money for disasters like the 2004 Asian tsunami and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
