Camacho Funeral Brawl; Hector 'Macho's' Girlfriends and Family Fight at Memorial
A brawl erupted at the memorial for Hector "Macho" Camacho.
A woman claiming to be a girlfriend of the late boxing legend appeared at the funeral and upset other attendees.
The fight started when 28-year-old Cynthia Castillo arrived at the Wednesday memorial held in San Juan, Puerto Rico with a pink T-shirt depicting Camacho's face, kissed him in the casket, and preceded to stand in the section reserved for close family.
Gloria Fernandez, one of Camacho's former lovers, and family members of the deceased boxer took offense and confronted Castillo. A physical altercation began when the women began to slap and hit each other.
"I am the actual girlfriend of Macho, and those who don't like it better not bring it," Castillo said, as reported by USA Today. "They shouldn't be going after me. They should be thanking me for being with him at all times."
Fernandez and the boxer's sisters told Castillo that she needed to leave.
"I went to get something to eat because Machito (Hector Camacho Jr.) told me to, and (Fernandez) came up to me and told me that I had to leave," Castillo said. "I said no, so they threw my plate of food and attacked me, and I defended myself."
Police were called and Castillo later departed from the scene.
On Nov. 20 the boxing champion was sitting in a car with a friend when a gunman shot Camacho in the face and killed the other passenger. Camacho's friend died in the vehicle, but the boxer survived on life support for a few days after. After being declared brain dead his family decided to take him off life support. He was 50-years-old at the time of death.
The investigation continues to find who is responsible for the shooting, but police have not made any arrests.
Camacho had a legendary career that spanned 30 years with fights against powerful contenders like Felix Trinidad, Julio Cesar Chavez and Sugar Ray Leonard.
