President Obama Inauguration 2013 Date Revealed & Details On The Ceremony
It was announced on Thursday by members of the Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies that President Barack Obama will be sworn in for his second term on Monday, Jan. 21 during an inauguration ceremony that will revolve around the theme of "Faith in America's Future."
Event coordinators voiced their intention to have the political festivities acknowledge the historical significance of the date, which is actually 150 years from 1863. That respective year in American history brought the Emancipation Proclamation under President Abraham Lincoln along with the eventual completion of the Capitol Dome.
"Our nation has faced countless challenges throughout its history, and each time we have come together as Americans and moved forward with renewed strength," stated Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), according to the Huffington Post.
"During the 57th Presidential Inauguration, Americans from across the country will gather beneath the Capitol Dome to celebrate our history, take measure of how far we have come, and look towards our future with hope and determination," he added.
In 2009 when Obama was previously sworn in, the President's theme was "A New Birth Of Freedom," which also paid homage to Lincoln. The sentiment was taken straight out of the Gettysburg Address.
In a statement that revealed the President's theme, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif) reminded the general public that Obama's ceremony will also be on the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth date.
Over 1,500 powerful individuals are expected to be in attendance for the presidential ceremony. They will all be viewing the President's promises via a temporary wooden platform called the Inaugural Platform. Construction of the notable viewing spot actually started in September.
With a crowd estimated to be at 1.8 million people, Obama's first inauguration was the largest event ever held in Washington D.C., according to the JCCIC. Although such numbers aren't expected this time around, the ceremony will more than likely have a live presence on a massive scale.
