Harvard Sex Club: Ive League School Approves Kinky Sex & Bondage Group On Campus
Harvard University, the home to several of the nation's top academic achievers raised eyebrows on Friday when reports surfaced that it gave the go-ahead for a kinky sex and bondage club on their campus.
According to The Crimson, the Ivy League school started when seven of its students began meeting during their lunch hours to elaborate on their sex interests. The group called "Harvard College Munch" has now increased to roughly 30 members and is currently one of 15 student organizations that will get approval from the Student Life Committee.
"The impact on campus will be that students who feel outside of the sexual mainstream will now have a safe place to talk about their interests, to feel socially validated, and to build a community," stated Dr. Justin Lehmiller, a Harvard psychology lecturer and sex columnist to ABC News.
The founder of the controversial group who is known by the name of Michael, states that approval from Harvard's administration allows him to put up flyers around the school's campus for upcoming events and recruitment purposes.
"It's a little hyperbolic for me to get teary-eyed and paternal about sophomores, but it's really a joy to see the experiences they will have now," the founder stated.
Another member of the club referred to as Mae spoke about both the popularity and comfort of the controversial meet-up.
"I didn't think that anyone was even remotely interested [in kink] on campus. It's a community where you can feel safe, and you can feel comfortable talking about [kink]."
Jeff Neal, a spokesperson for Harvard stated that the college acknowledges 400 independent student organizations, which must abide by a slew of requirements, "ranging from submitting an organizational constitution to agreeing to the nondiscrimination and anti-hazing policies."
Interesting to note, the "Munch" group previously applied for recognition in 2011, but faced problems with their constitution and couldn't find a stable advisor.
