Jussie Smollett is not suicidal, but he decided to give up food and consume only water for an important reason.

Smollett seemingly started repenting his sins that he began taking this year's Lent seriously by not consuming any food. According to a news outlet, the actor intends to fast in the next five weeks.

Sources added that Smollett's fasting is for spiritual reasons, and he has not eaten anything since the observance started on March 3. It also marked a week before he began serving his sentence in Cook County Jail.

Although he is said to experiencing difficulties behind bars, Smollett continues his fasting no matter what.

While the plan might put his health in jeopardy, one insider assured the fans that Smollett remains in good spirits. They also clarified that it is not a form of hunger strike or protest. In the end, the insider repeatedly said he is not suicidal.

As of the writing, he still has not consumed anything even after moving out of his psych ward. The same news outlet said that medical professionals decided to discharge him out of the ward.

"Cook County Jail staff, as well as staff from Cermak Health Services, monitor all individuals in custody at the jail to ensure their health and wellness. The Sheriff's Office cannot comment on any individual's personal religious or spiritual practices," it went on.

Jussie Smollett's Latest Update

The news came after his brother thanked the #FreeJussie supporters for applying pressure on Cook County Jail to let him out of the ward.

Jocqui shared another video on Instagram, urging everyone to keep posting with #FreeJussie to keep the pressure intact. For Jocqui and the actor's supporters, Smollett's predicament is "absolutely ridiculous." Amid that, he acknowledged everyone who is helping them to keep his brother strong and focused.

He previously said that his brother entered the psych ward at Cook County jail despite having no risk of harming himself. This then gave birth to the #FreeJussie hashtag so Smollett would be in segregated incarceration due to the impending negative effects of it on his mental and physical state.

Meanwhile, his legal team has since claimed that the actor has been facing threats while serving his 150-day sentence. Thus, it prompted them to request the suspension of his jail sentence.
