The Best Canceled TV Shows 2015: Hannibal, Constantine, Revenge & More
Another year has come and gone, and, unfortunately, so have many of our favorite shows.
Television is riddled with series that were cut short before their time (just ask Firefly fans), and 2015 made a hefty donation to the reject pile. As TV's latest freshman class heads into it's first winter hiatus, here a list of the Top 5 shows we wish were still streaming over the airwaves.
Hannibal
Bryan Fuller's gorgeously brutal take on the rise and fall of Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) is currently in television limbo. NBC axed the drama early during season 3, but the peacock network was generous enough to allow the series to complete its summer run. While the finale could easily serve as a definitive end to the tale of Will (Hugh Dancy)Graham and his murderous frenemy, Fuller is planning to bring the drama back.
Graceland
The USA series took a walk on the dark side during season 3, and while it made for a compelling story, Briggs' (Daniel Sunjata) foray into sin eating didn't get Graceland the viewers it needed. The coalition of alphabet soup agents was left utterly devastated following the death of the season's big bad, and viewers were left to wonder if the team could ever recover from its moral decline.
Welcome to Sweden
Amy and Greg Poehler's international comedy made it through its freshman run, but received the boot just two episodes into season 2. Based on Greg's real life experience of moving to his girlfriend's native Sweden, the series aired abroad on TV4 and in the US on NBC. It's unknown exactly what tanked the comedy's ratings, but it's safe to assume many viewers found the split Swedish/English dialogue less impressive than we did.
Constantine
The adventures of DC's trench coat-donning, cigarette-smoking demon hunter only lasted 13 episodes. The comic book juggernaut is known for it's darker fare, and the Matt Ryan-led series was no exception. While DC currently has series on Fox, CBS, and The CW, NBC chose to opt out of the ink-splashed frenzy. A confusing transition between the premiere and episode 2 may have lost the casual viewer.
Revenge
The primetime soap had the honor of choosing it's own departure schedule. While most series go off the air after their stories have been run into the ground, Revenge chose to bow out while it's ratings were still high. The tale of Emily (Emily VanCamp) and Victoria (Madeline Stowe) came to a satisfying end with "Two Graves," and while we certainly wouldn't mind diving back into the Hampton's drama, it's refreshing to see a popular series go out on top.
