Charlie and Miranda's Quantico relationship just got a whole lot more complicated. Talk about your family drama.

Miranda's (Aunjanue Ellis) son got in over his head, and his half-hearted attempt to sever ties with his terrorist pals turned his life upside down. It turned out that Charlie's (J. Mallory McCree) kidnapping was a setup, and the intel he gleaned from his time inside the Academy walls was used to help the cell plan their attack. The youngster didn't fully commit to the plan, however, and his betrayal caused the only surviving terrorist to drop by Casa de Shaw. Charlie ultimately shoots the terrorist to save his mom, but he takes two bullets in the process - one from a sniper...and one from his mother!

So, why did Miranda put a bullet in her panicked teen? To make him drop out of the sniper's sight line, of course. Her plan backfired, however, and the sniper got the drop as well.

"She's a good shot, she can shoot him to get him down on the ground, but everything happens so fast," Ellis explained, according to Entertainment Weekly. "She thinks she's doing what is right in the moment."

Moving forward, viewers can expect the mother/son storyline to stay as complicated as ever.

"She's devastated. I think the relationship with Miranda and Charlie will always be one in progress or one in regress, depending on the day," Ellis explained. "I think the writers on this show are just really sadistic to the characters, like, "What's the worst thing that can happen to these people? Let's do that."

Next time on Quantico, Alex (Priyanka Chopra) and Co. will face off with the terrorists once more in "Clue."

"At Quantico, the NATS are given a training exercise that hits too close to home for Shelby," ABC teased. "While in the future, Alex finds an unlikely ally in Hannah, as she continues to try and stop the terrorist from striking again."

Catch Quantico Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
