Things initially took an unexpected turn at Adam's (Justin Hartley) trial when Victor (Eric Braden) took the stand and claimed to not only love his son but swear he wasn't setting him up to look like a murderer, but after Ian (Ray Wise) learned he wasn't being given an escape plan, all hell broke loose on The Young and the Restless.

Enraged that Adam and Chelsea (Melissa Clare Egan) lied to him about setting up a plan for his escape from prison in exchange for his testimony, Ian got hold of a guard's gun, held Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) as a shield, and fired a shot at Victor. Now, Victor is lying in the courtroom and bleeding from a gunshot wound, and Ian has gone on the run with Nikki as his hostage, and even Victor's enemies are left behind to try and help save his life.

"I'm having trouble stanching the blood," Nick (Joshua Morrow) says in a preview clip for the Monday, July 4 episode.

"Use this," Jack (Peter Bergmann) says, handing over his jacket.

"Where the hell is that ambulance?" Paul (Doug Davidson) shouts in to a phone nearby.

Meanwhile, Ian has grabbed Nikki and she is now his hostage, but she won't be alone, as Ian won't be stopped as he tried to broker his escape from prison.

Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) stayed away from the trial so she wouldn't have to see Victor again after the destruction he caused in her life with Marco, and stunned Jack when she said she wanted to stay behind at the Abbott Cabin as well. Initially, she stayed behind to get some alone time, but enjoyed another romp with Billy (Jason Thompson). However, after he leaves, she will be stunned when Ian bursts in with Nikki, and she too will quickly become his hostage.

Now, both women will have to work together if they are to try and outsmart their captor, and save themselves as well.

The Young and the Restless airs Monday-Friday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
