The day of reckoning has finally arrived for Adam Newman (Justin Hartley) when it comes to whether or not he murdered Constance Bingham, but his trial is going to go in a way no one expected after both his father, Victor (Eric Braden) and Ian Ward (Ray Wise) show up to testify on The Young and the Restless.

Ian is Adam's only witness who claims Victor bragged about setting him up to look like a murderer from prison, and is agreeing to do so under the condition that Adam help him escape from prison afterwards. Victor meanwhile is going to rebutt Ian's testimony, since no such confession ever happened. And as the two men prepare to leave the prison to head to court, they will begin to spar over what each of them hopes to achieve.

"We both want the same thing," Ian says in a preview clip for the Friday, July 1 episode. "Justice. See you in court."

Meanwhile, everyone in Victor's family is sure he's setting Adam up, including his soon-to-be ex-wife, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), who's appearance at the trial will initially stun Paul (Doug Davidson), before he realizes why she's actually there.

"You want to see if he's telling the truth," he says to Nikki in the clip.

"Or to see if he's going to lie to destroy his son," she confirms.

However, when Victor takes the stand, he will shock everybody when he claims he couldn't have set Adam up, because he loves his son and actually wants to protect him. He also puts out his own theory that Ian is the one who has been orchestrating the entire situation.

In the meantime, Ian will learn that Adam's escape plan for him was all a ruse, and he will become enraged that he was tricked into testifying. As he becomes enraged, he will reach for the bailiff's gun, and the trial will erupt in chaos when he begins firing, and Victor takes a bullet.

The Young and the Restless airs Monday-Friday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
