Alton Sterling Update: Issa Rae Raises Over $300,000 For Family & Graphic New VIDEO Released
News of Baton Rouge police shooting and killing 37-year-old local Alton Sterling has created a firestorm, and now video footage of the incident is causing even more uproar.
Baton Rouge police were reportedly responding to a 9-1-1 call from a homeless man, who alleged that Sterling showed him his gun after he, the homeless man, asked for money. He then apparently "pulled the gun" on the homeless man, says local Louisiana station WAFB.
The whole incident went down outside of Abdullah Muflahi's Triple S Food Mart convenient store. Muflahi went out and started recording on his phone after police came and tasered Sterling. The video was obtained by The Daily Beast and can be seen below. Warning: the video is graphic in nature.
It's not clear from the video if Sterling's gun was an active threat, as it mostly shows officers Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake having tackled him to the ground and eventually shooting him.
Muflahi also said that the police had asked for security footage from his store, which was apparently taken without a warrant.
"I told them I would like to be in the store when [they took it]. They told me they didn't want me to see the footage," he said. "I never received a warrant."
Various celebrities and activists have commented on the death of Sterling.
