Nintendo has just announced what is probably the most nostalgia-inducing game console ever created, as the Japanese gaming giant just showed off the NES Classic Edition, a mini replica of the firm's hyper-popular console during the 80s. What's more, the tiny console, which fits in the palm of the hand, comes with 30 built-in classic Nintendo titles, most of which are the grandfathers of some of the biggest IPs of today.

The original Nintendo Entertainment System, most often referred to as the NES, was released back in 1985. The NES is Nintendo's first home console, and is largely responsible for making the firm into the gaming behemoth that it is today. With arcade games such as Pac-Man and Donkey Kong among its prolific titles, the NES practically became synonymous with home gaming during its peak.

According to Nintendo of American president and chief operating officer Reggie Fils-Aime, the NES Classic Edition is almost like a love song to Nintendo's most loyal fans, especially those who have grown up with the system.

"We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo's original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place," he said.

The NES Classic Edition comes with 30 of Nintendo's biggest titles of yesteryear, such as the first three Super Mario Bros. games, the first two Legend of Zelda titles, Mega Man 2, Metroid, Excite Bike and even the game which almost single-handedly redefined the role-playing genre, the very first Final Fantasy.

The release of the NES Classic Edition seems to be Nintendo's strategy to tap into the nostalgia of players who have grown up with the gaming firm's most notable IPs. After all, if there's anything that could be deduced by the runaway success of Pokemon GO, it is the fact that bringing the classics into the modern gaming era pays off very well.

The NES Classic Edition is set to go on sale starting November 11. The tiny console, which hooks up to a TV's HDMI port, costs $59.99 and comes bundled with one controller. An extra controller will be made available for $9.99 more.
