Amazon Competes with Spotify for Music Streaming; Subscription only at $3.99 per Month?
Amazon releases just released a music streaming application which hopes to compete with Spotify and Apple Music, which are huge in the streaming world.
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, Amazon introduced the Amazon Music Unlimited powered by Alexa. This music streaming app is being paired with the Echo speaker, also from Amazon. That is if the speaker is purchased, the only downloadable streaming application to it is the Amazon Music Unlimited.
With Spotify leading the world of music streams, how can this new app by Amazon compete for the top spot? According to BBC, the Music Unlimited can be used by any Echo user for only $3.99 subscription every month. This is more than half the price paid for when streaming music through Spotify or other apps.
The downside to this seemingly great deal is that, people will have to purchase the Echo speaker prior to downloading the music app. Otherwise, users will have to pay $9.99 if they opt to subscribe to the app without using the Echo speaker. Also, if an individual is currently subscribed to Amazon's other streaming app, subscription is only at $7.99.
With the Amazon Music Unlimited, people are given more payment options, something which other music streaming apps don't have. The usual offer is the free subscription with very limited perks and the $10 subscription, which when purchased allows the users to have more options when streaming music.
The new Amazon music streaming application is equipped with artificial intelligence that allows the user to find songs even if there's incomplete information about it.
Amazon Music Unlimited was launched furnished with a catalog containing more than 10 million songs, personalized stations and managed playlists. These features make the app more at par with its competition like Spotify and Apple Music, said USA Today. Such qualities also set the music streaming site apart from the other Amazon streaming app, the Prime Music.
Steve Boom, the Amazon Music vice president, has this to say about the rivals: "We've earned our seat at the table. We're one of the biggest music services in the world, period."
If people want to subscribe now, Amazon Music Unlimited can be experienced with all its features free of charge for the first 30 days.
