Edward Snowden shines lights on the privacy of millions being invaded
Privacy is said to be one of the priority concerns for any company that is handling customer data in the digital world. There are various policies and legal statements which dictate that the privacy of a human being.The reason for this is very obvious as unless we are doing something illegal, we have a right to keep our information to ourselves.
This is why one can see various companies insuring and reinstating the fact over and over again that they are protecting the privacy of their customers. Up until Edward Snowden exposed them, Yahoo was believed to be trust as well.
The NSA is an organization which is made to keep American Citizens safe, that much is known. What was unknown before that the NSA could go through extreme extents and even break through several national laws regarding privacy in order to keep everyone safe.
Emails have various Spam filters which help protect people from viruses and malware. According to Heavy, Yahoo approved of re purposing a Spam filter which was earlier used for child pornography, and they changed it into a filter that detects very specific signatures coming from suspected terrorist communication channels.
Although the idea was good, it did cause Yahoo to indubitably go through millions of email accounts in order to fulfill this purpose. This gave them full access to the email accounts and all the contents within. This case that was first exclusive on Reuters has spread all over the Internet and it still causes major trust related issues in various places to this very day.
Edward Snowden was a former NSA agent who was involved in what the NSA did in collaboration with Yahoo and he shed detailed lights on the issue. Apparently the NSA instructed Yahoo to scan through various email signatures and accounts secretly as the NSA suspected it to be a matter of security.
