The "Blade of the Immortal" movie, based on a manga and anime series, finally gets a release date and together with this, the film production disclosed the identity of the actress playing Rin Asano.

In August of this year, there was an initial confirmation that a live-action film version of "Blade of the Immortal" is in the works. At the time, it was reported that the film outfit is gunning for a spring 2017 release, said The Fandom Post.

After the announcement, no further details had been divulged to the public, until now. The movie's staff has finally confirmed that the film will premiere on April 29, 2017. Just as what was initially reported, "Blade of the Immortal" will be shown in spring.

Aside from the schedule of showing, the production also revealed the actress who will play the heroine, Rin Asano. Hana Sugisaki has been confirmed to play the female heroine. The 19-year-old actress' most recent project is "Toto Neechan," where she played Yoshiko, the sister of the main character.

Along with Sugisaki, actor Takuya Kimura was earlier confirmed to play the lead character, Manji. "Blade of the Immortal" is currently being shot on location Kyoto. This live-action version is being directed by Takashi Miike.

In 1993, the story was written by Hiroaki Samura and was released as a manga series which was completed in 2012. "Blade of the Immortal" garnered the Eisner Award for Best US Edition of Foreign Material in 2000.

In 2008, an anime adaptation of the story was produced and televised by Bee Train and Production I.G. The anime had a total of 13 episodes.

"Blade of the Immortal" follows the story of Manji, a ronin warrior during the feudal era in Japan. Manji was cursed and became immortal. The only way to break the curse is for him to slay one thousand evil men. After his task is done, he can finally end his life of misery.
