Bob Odenkirk Already Lost Pulse Following 'Small Heart Attack' on 'Better Call Saul' Set
Bob Odenkirk recalled the nightmare he had when he suffered from a heart attack on the set of "Better Call Saul."
In July, Odenkirk left everyone startled when he passed out while filming his AMC series. He gave updates to fans about his recovery, and the actor spoke once more about the horrifying medical issue in a new interview.
The 59-year-old actor told The New York Times (via New York Post) that they were shooting a scene when the emergency incident happened. He recalled shooting all day before suffering from a heart attack.
Odenkirk was reportedly taking a break with co-stars Patrick Fabian and Rhea Seehorn. Until today, he has no memory of what happened afterward.
"I went to play the Cubs game and ride my workout bike, and I just went down," he said. "Rhea said I started turning bluish-gray right away."
The production's medical team responded immediately while the health safety supervisor, Rosa Estrada, and assistant director Angie Meyer conducted CPR. They also attached Odenkirk to a defibrillator.
Things got worse as they failed their first two attempts to revive the actor. Fortunately, they tried again for the third time, causing him to get his heartbeats back.
Seehorn also told the news outlet that the incident served as a near-death experience for Odenkirk.
What Happened to Bob Odenkirk?
Odenkirk shared more history about the health issue, saying that he found out in 2018 that he had plaque buildup in his heart. But he refused to receive treatment until "one of the plaques" broke up on its own last year.
Unfortunately, it happened again that it caused him to be rushed to Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. During the procedure, his doctors surgically blew little balloons and got rid of the plaque.
Fans unceasingly waited for 24 hours and got anxious after a death hoax surfaced. Multiple news outlets claimed that the actor died while shooting the series. Meanwhile, others claimed that Odenkirk lost consciousness because of the COVID-19 vaccine he received months ago.
But after the actor woke up, he assured everyone he would be okay.
"Thanks to Rosa Estrada and the doctors who knew how to fix the blockage without surgery. Also, AMC and SONYs support and help throughout this has been next-level. I'm going to take a beat to recover but I'll be back soon," he went on.
