Sebastian Stan Initially Thought His ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ Character Is Over
Sebastian Stan's role has been one of the notable characters of "Captain America" franchise, but there was a time that he was uncertain if his character would last as there was a problem about a decade ago; what could this be?
Reliving his career timeline through a video published by Vanity Fair, the "Pam & Tommy" actor revealed a specific scene that changed, signaling that Bucky Barnes isn't bound to last.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stan's role was not cut off from the franchise, but the actor felt uncertain while filming a movie in 2011.
The actor explained that he didn't know he would be playing the role for over a decade. He then recalled the time when he went in to take on the part of Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, and he, unfortunately, did not get it.
"Then being told about this role and where it could go. But it didn't seem like there was any commitment, really," he added.
However, during "Captain America: The First Avenger," Stan was confident that his role would be a reprise in the future as his character was to lose his arm, meaning it was a set-up for his superhero role to transform into a Winter Soldier character.
Then, there was a sudden change with production the day he was about to shoot a shocking scene.
Stan said at that moment; he knew it was the end of his story as his character was bound to fall off the train.
"That was the only indication [the cut-off arm] I had that I could potentially be coming back. But no one said anything to me," he recalled.
Production then told him he's not going to use a green sleeve for CGI that would alter his cut-off arm, and he thought his character would die and won't come back anymore. He noted that the crew didn't know what arm they would use, and "it kept going from there."
Luckily for the actor, he would play the character seven more times in the franchise and several Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
Sebastian Stan will also play his role in the series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier."
Aside from his Disney and MCU characters, he also plays the character of Tommy Lee in the Hulu series "Pam & Tommy."
