Rachel Zegler Attending the Oscars After Online Outrage? Here’s the Truth
After the internet went wild as soon as Rachel Zegler confirmed that she would not be attending this year's Academy Awards despite starring in the Best Picture nominee, "West Side Story," the actress is finally getting a chance to join the prestigious event.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited the "Snow White" actress to be a presenter at the big ceremony.
Although the 20-year-old rising star is currently in the United Kingdom filming Disney's live-action film "Snow White," the outlet noted that production is doing their best to rearrange the movie's shooting schedule for Zegler to attend the show.
At the time of this writing, neither Rachel Zegler nor representatives of the Academy Awards have confirmed whether the circulating reports are true.
What Happened to Rachel Zegler?
Since rising to fame, the Latina actress has attended numerous red carpet events, and coveted awards shows, including this year's Critics' Choice Movie Awards and the British Academy Film Awards, but fans were shocked to learn that she wasn't invited to the Oscars.
Over the weekend, Zegler shared a series of photos on Instagram featuring the things she did throughout the first quarter of 2022.
A fan took to the comment section to express their excitement, saying they're looking forward to seeing what her outfit would be at the Academy Awards.
The actress then replied, saying she won't be attending the show as she never received an invite, so she would opt for her boyfriend's flannel and a pair of sweatpants.
As fans expressed their disappointment online, Zegler explained her side, saying she tried everything, but "it doesn't seem to be happening."
Despite not attending the show, she will still support their co-stars before hoping for a "last minute miracle" to celebrate their film "West Side Story" in person.
According to The Wrap, nominees and presenters get a ticket for the event, but there are times when cast members of a specific film aren't guaranteed to attend despite being nominated for Best Picture.
It seems fans aren't the only ones disappointed with Zegler's situation as Alec Baldwin offered to buy her tickets to the show.
Gloria Calderón Kellett, showrunner of "One Day at a Time," also chimed in by calling out the Academy, writing, "How about the rare time that Latine people have a movie nominated for an OSCAR you invite the lead. Latine people are 18.5% of this country. ENOUGH!" (via ABC News)
The 2022 Academy Awards will be broadcasted on Sunday at 8 p.m. via ABC.
