Brad Pitt’s Hidden Treasure in French Estate Turned Out to Be a Scam?
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's thousand-acre French Estate has been a center of controversy over the past year as the actor reportedly sued his ex-wife for "illegally selling" off her shares. Today, Pitt is revealing another story that happened within their property.
In an interview with GQ Magazine for his August cover story, the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" star said he was informed that millions of dollars worth of gold are buried beneath the estate.
Pitt was happy upon finding out the information, so he got "obsessed" for a year, and it's all he could think about.
He later purchased radar equipment and started surveying the property for the hidden treasure.
"Maybe it has something to do with where I grew up, because in the Ozark Mountains there were always stories of hidden caches of gold," he said. (via Insider)
However, it turned out to be a big scam as the man who told him about the treasure was only trying to get him to invest in a radar company.
In the end, the actor admitted that he was "pretty foolish."
"It was just the hunt that was exciting," he added.
The latest revelation comes a few months after Pitt accused his ex-wife of illegally selling her shares.
According to Page Six, the actor alleged they both agreed that they wouldn't sell their share of the Chateau and the vineyard without an agreement from one another.
However, Jolie sold her shares to Russian businessman Yuri Shefler without asking him permission.
The court documents read, "Jolie consummated the purported sale without Pitt's knowledge, denying Pitt the consent right she owed him and the right of first refusal her business entity owed his."
The docs revealed that the actress sold her interest even though she knew that Shefler would "seek to control" the profitable vineyard that Pitt had been devoted to.
The French estate is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Southeastern France.
The former couple purchased the estate in 2008 for $28.4 million. They later got married on the property in 2014.
Aside from having a mansion, the property also features a vineyard that is considered one of the world's top producers of rosé wine.
The business is said to be worth millions of dollars.
