Prince William is preparing to resume his official responsibilities later this week, marking his first engagement since his wife disclosed her diagnosis.

Amid their children's school break, the 41-year-old has taken on the role of caring for the couple's three children; Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, while also providing support to Kate.

Following Kate's announcement, insiders informed PEOPLE that William, 41, would gradually return to his public duties once the children returned to school.

On April 18, Prince William is scheduled to participate in activities highlighting the initiatives of community and environmental organizations across southwest London and Surrey, as announced by his office at Kensington Palace on Tuesday. Starting in Sunbury-on-Thames, he will observe the operations of Surplus to Supper, a charity that redistributes surplus food to local community groups.

Later in the day, Prince William will reportedly make his way to a youth center in West London, where surplus food deliveries are a regular occurrence, benefiting those in need.

This initiative aligns with the prince's vision for a sustainable future, echoing the principles of his environmental Earthshot Prize. Addressing food waste and maximizing the use of surplus food is a cause championed not only by Prince William, but also by his father, King Charles, who has emphasized this issue since his coronation in 2023.
