Monica Lewinsky Drags Bill Clinton Using Taylor Swift's 'Asylum' Trend
Monica Lewinsky has nailed the Taylor Swift "asylum" trend.
The former White House intern went viral on X, formerly Twitter, Thursday after using the new meme to roast former President Bill Clinton.
The meme involves a lyric from the song "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?" from Swift's newly released album, "The Tortured Poets Department."
Thousands of Swifties shared photos of places or things that represent bittersweet memories or trauma alongside the lyric: "You wouldn't last an hour in the asylum where they raised me."
For Lewinsky's entry in the viral trend, she posted the Swift lyric on X alongside a photo of the White House, where she had an affair with Clinton that led to her enduring vilification and intense public scrutiny for decades.
Lewinsky's post, which has since garnered 14.2 million views and over 170,000 likes, was praised by X users as "iconic," "legendary," and the "tweet of the year."
One person commented, "Oh you ATE with this one."
"OK... I think those of us who are of a certain age can agree that this wins that particular prompt/meme. Well played, Ms. Lewinsky. Well played," another user commented on her post.
"Your ability to have a sense of humor over what they did to you is pretty inspirational," a third user wrote.
Lewinsky, 50, was a White House intern in her early 20s when she had a sexual relationship with then-President Clinton.
The scandal led to impeachment proceedings against him in 1998.
Lewinsky retreated from the spotlight and avoided the public eye before later becoming an anti-bullying activist.
Lewinsky also recently garnered attention after starring in Reformation's new "You've Got the Power" campaign.
Photos released by the fashion brand showed her modeling its new workwear line, which included power suits and chic skirt sets.
Reformation also debuted a new purse named after Lewinsky, the $448 "Monica" crossbody.
For the campaign, the political activist and the clothing brand teamed up with Vote.org to urge women to vote in the upcoming election.
Meanwhile, aside from Lewinsky, other celebrities and well-known personalities who joined the "asylum" trend included "Dance Moms alum Kalani Hilliker, who shared on TikTok a photo of Abby Lee Miller's dance studio in her own entry.
Leigha Sanderson, an ex-member of JoJo Siwa's girl group, posted Studio Siwa alongside the Swift lyric on TikTok.
The cast of MTV's "Jersey Shore" jumped on the trend by uploading images of the beach house in Seaside Heights, New Jersey, where they filed the reality series in the 2000s.
