Ben Affleck and his wife Jennifer Lopez's body language during their latest reunion showed there were "relationship difficulties" and "emotional turmoil" between them, an expert has claimed.

The couple -- who has been plagued by divorce rumors in recent weeks -- met up to support the actor's son Samuel at his basketball game at the YMCA in Santa Monica Sunday.

The reunion was dubbed by some outlets as "tense" and "awkward," with Lopez and Affleck opting for air kisses instead of full-on smooches and walking a few steps away from each other as they entered the venue.

Body language expert Blanca Cobb suggested to Fox News Digital that Affleck and Lopez seemed more like friends than a married couple during the interaction.

"It's a kiss on the cheek, like when you see a friend. Even his stance, the way his body is angled, is more platonic than romantic," Cobb explained. "And his feet are in a runner's pose, as if he's there for a few seconds before he moves on."

She added, "If the couple is having relationship difficulties, then it makes sense. When you love someone, and you're going through a hard time, you might show reserved affection."

Photos published by the outlet also showed the Oscar winner and the singer-actress leaving the basketball game together after the match.

Affleck was seen smiling and holding a basketball, while Lopez walked beside him, holding her designer purse and coat in front of her.

Analyzing Lopez's body language, Cobb said that the "Hustlers" star appeared "guarded" and seemed like she was trying to "shield herself psychologically."

On the other hand, the body language expert said Affleck looked "more at ease" as he carried the basketball.

"It's intriguing to note that both are holding something that prevents them from physically connecting, a poignant detail," Cobb told the outlet. "This physical distance, often a response to relationship issues, can be a source of emotional turmoil, a feeling many of us can relate to."

The outing marked the third time Affleck and Lopez were spotted in public together last week.

However, just like Sunday's outing, Affleck and Lopez's recent sightings did little to quell the divorce rumors surrounding the couple's marriage.

The speculation first surfaced after fans noticed in mid-May that the pair hadn't been photographed out together in over a month.

TMZ then reported that Affleck had moved out of their Beverly Hills marital home and into a rental in Los Angeles' Brentwood and that the actor had been spotted out without his wedding ring.

People also learned from unnamed insiders that the "Flash" star and the "On the Floor" hitmaker have been living separately in L.A.

Lopez and Affleck have not addressed the split rumors. According to TMZ, the multihyphenate even reportedly banned all questions about her and Affleck's marriage during the press tour for her new Netflix movie, "Atlas."
