Prince William Helps Kate Middleton's Mom Carole After Her Heel Got Stuck: 'A True Gentleman'
Prince William was fast enough when Kate Middleton's mom, Carole Middleton, encountered a minor inconvenience at Ascot Day.
On the second day at Royal Ascot, the Prince of Wales was joined by his in-laws Michael and Carole and his cousins, Princess Eugenie and husband Jack Brooksbank, Princess Beatrice, and Zara Tindall and Michael Tindall. During the outing, Carole's foot slipped out of her footwear, which was left behind on the ground, the Daily Mail reported.
Prince William rushed to help her by holding one of her hands as she balanced herself while her shoe was stuck in the grass. Prince William and Carole laughed at the shoe mishap before joining the other guests. The outlet highlighted Prince William's chivalry and praised him for being a "true gentleman."
At the event, Prince William was seen chatting with his mother and father-in-law in the Parade Ring. The event marked the first public appearance for Middleton's parents since their daughter shared her cancer diagnosis to the world in March, per People.
Prince William shares a tight relationship with Carole and Michael. Angela Levin, a royal biographer and commentator, told The Sun's Fabulous in 2021 that his "dysfunctional family background" gave him "barely a clue of what a normal family life was like." However, the Middletons, especially Carole, offered him a stable home.
"William adored Diana and was drawn to her magnetic charm, but she was relentlessly demanding on him as a young child, describing him as her 'closest confidant' and talking about her lovers when it's a mother's duty to care for her son, not the other way round," Levin said.
"Carole relieved William of such burdens by accepting him for who he was rather than what he was. She made him feel secure, comfortable and protected and he didn't have to worry about what he said or be responsible for her emotions."
Rachael Andrews, host of "Keeping Up With The Windsors," a royal family podcast, also shared the same sentiment regarding Prince William's relationship with his in-laws. According to her, the future king admired his mother-in-law because "he's lacked a mother figure for most of his life."
"We've seen over the past few years that he gets on really well with them," Andrews told OK! "He admires the way that Carole and Michael brought up Catherine, Pippa and James [Kate's siblings], and that seems to be reflected in the way William is a down-to-earth father now."
The royal commentator added, "With Carole and Michael, he's got people to confide in who are removed from the monarchy."
