Prince William will opt for having fewer working royal family members during his reign, according to a source.

King Charles decided to slim down the monarchy, and it was evident in the number of royals who joined His Majesty on the balcony during Trooping the Colour last week. However, the Prince of Wales would allegedly take it further. Prince William and Middleton's younger children -- Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 -- will likely be discouraged from becoming working royals, a source told the Daily Beast. However, Prince George, who is destined to be the next King after their dad, has no option but to embrace his future role.

"The working assumption is that the younger two children will get on and do their own thing. They will be encouraged to not become working royals," the insider said.

The claim was allegedly made by a former Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace staffer, who is still in contact with their previous colleagues serving the royals. The Prince and Princess of Wales did not immediately respond to the Daily Beast's request for comment.

The statement that Prince George's siblings may not become working royals in the future came after Richard Eden, Editor of the Daily Mail Diary, Eden Confidential and Palace Confidential, published a report about his opinion on the recent Trooping the Colour and shared an alleged conversation with Prince William's pal over the event.

According to Eden, something about the balcony scene left him "feeling uneasy." Eden said the absence of the older royals like the Duke of Kent and his glamorous granddaughters, Lady Amelia and Lady Marina Windsor, was noticeable.

Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of late Queen Elizabeth's beloved first cousin Prince Michael of Kent, was spotted behind the curtain in the Centre Room at the palace. Many relatives were kept hidden because King Charles reportedly "chose to stick with the post-pandemic policy" of Queen Elizabeth, which only allowed the "working royals" to be on the balcony.

Eden said that when he spoke to a friend of the Prince of Wales, he was hoping that the younger royal would change the "uninspiring policy," but he was surprised by what he heard. The heir apparent was reportedly in "full agreement" with His Majesty regarding a "slimmed-down monarchy."

"When the older members of the family retire, His Royal Highness won't be inviting anyone else to become working royals. It remains to be seen if he will even want his two younger children to be working royals," the unnamed friend of Prince William reportedly told Eden.

"That is what William wants. He sees the small European monarchies as the model for the future," the tipster added.
