Maddox's Negative Opinion Of Dad Brad Pitt Allegedly 'Rubbed Off On' Younger Siblings Shiloh And Vivienne: Report
Maddox Jolie-Pitt always wants to protect his mom, Angelina Jolie, according to an insider.
In September 2016, Jolie and Brad Pitt had an altercation during a flight from France to Los Angeles. She alleged that he was abusive, and during the physical brawl, Pitt allegedly "choked" one child and hit another in the face. An unnamed source said that following the fight that led to the former A-list couple's split, Maddox wanted to be their mom's protector.
"Maddox was very affected by that incident, and he's taken it upon himself to be Angelina's protector," the source told OK! Magazine.
Maddox is Jolie and Pitt's eldest child. The former celebrity couple share six children -- Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 15. Maddox, whom Jolie adopted from Cambodia even before she started dating Pitt, allegedly had negative opinions of his adoptive father, and it allegedly "rubbed off on" his younger siblings, especially on Pitt's biological daughters, Shiloh and Vivienne.
Another insider claimed that Shiloh's recent decision to drop her dad's surname from her legal name was "connected" to the alleged "abuse history" of their dad.
"She [used to be] very close with Brad and his family, but that relationship [changed] in recent years," the insider explained.
A third insider claimed that the twins -- Vivienne and Knox -- are feeling the same way. Vivienne even chose to drop Pitt's last name from the playbill of "The Outsiders," which she worked on with her mom.
"They used to have Facetime calls when they were apart and he was much more involved in their lives," the third source said of the twins. "The dynamic has shifted."
The FBI and the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services investigated the in-flight altercation in 2016. Two months later, the FBI dropped the investigation, and Pitt was not charged. The LA County Department of Children and Family Services also cleared the "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" actor of child abuse allegations, USA Today reported.
Last month, Shiloh reportedly filed legal documents to change her name to "Shiloh Jolie" on her 18th birthday. A source told Entertainment Tonight that she "hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself."
In 2021, another insider claimed to Us Weekly that Maddox also wanted to get rid of Pitt's surname. He allegedly no longer used Pitt as his last name on some documents that were not legal. He reportedly wanted to make it official, but Jolie wasn't supportive.
"Maddox wants to legally change his last name to Jolie, which Angelina has said she doesn't support," the source said.
Another tipster told People Pitt was "aware and upset" of Shiloh's decision. The move reportedly reminded him that he had "lost his children," and he missed them.
